Beth Young
Beth attended Miami University (OH) on an athletic scholarship for field hockey. Although her ability to squat over 200 lbs prevented her from being much of a distance runner at that time, she was moderately fast in short spurts. When Miami's strength coach made the field hockey team run their conditioning test with the football team during preseason, Beth ran the fastest time for both teams. She was able to outrun a quarterback named Ben Roethlisberger, but he has since gotten the upper hand (Beth is unfortunately a Browns fan).
After a three year lull in physical activity known as law school, Beth started practicing Bikram yoga and jogging casually. Before starting to train with Coach Jerry in the spring of 2010, Beth ran the New York marathon in 3:09. In 2013, after a few years with GRC, during which she had breakthroughs in distances ranging from 5k to the half marathon, Beth ran a huge PR of 2:49:30 in the Eugene Marathon. She ran another large PR of 1:17:18 in the USATF Half Marathon Championships in 2014. Building off of this momentum, Beth's goals include significantly improving her marathon time as well as continuing to improve her PRs in the shorter distances. Beth lives in Washington, DC and is a trial attorney for the Department of Justice.
