Julie Culley
Julie started running in middle school when her gym teacher recommended she participate in the county middle school track championships. She started training the day before the meet running laps around her house before taking the staring line and winning the county 800m, her first ever track race. Julie went on to have a successful high school career at North Hunterdon in Clinton Township, NJ before moving up the road to Rutgers University to compete in college. In 2004, she graduated from Rutgers as an All-American in cross country and still holds the school record in the 3000m, 5000m, and Distance Medley Relay. Immediately after college, Julie began her coaching career at Loyola University in Maryland before getting the bug to start training and competing again. In 2006 she reached out to Coach Matt Centrowitz at American University for help in getting her post-collegiate career off the ground. Working alongside Coach Centrowitz, Julie qualified for three World Championships in Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor track and field. In 2010 she moved back to her home town to train under Coach Frank Gagliano and co-found the New Jersey New York Track Club. Julie won the Olympic Trials in 2012 in the 5000m and made the final of the Olympic Games in London. Julie never officially “retired” from the sport, but runs with a different purpose now. She and her husband Chris Farley own Pacers Running, and Julie is the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country at Georgetown University. They live in Arlington, Virginia with their baby, James Farley.
