5K - 15:54 (2008) 8K (xc) - 26:09 (2005) 10K (xc)- 33:10 (2009) A native Washingtonian, Peter began running his sophomore year of high school at Georgetown Day School. Silverman was inspired to train hard by his coach Anthony Belber, an accomplished Haverford 10,000 meter runner, and Ben Stern, his teammate and a 2001 footlocker finalist. During Silverman's senior year, he finished 2nd in the 2002 Mid-Atlanic Athletic Conference (MAC) Cross Country championships and 2nd in the 3200m at the 2003 MAC Track championships.After high school, Peter continued his running career at Chapman University, in sunny southern California. |
Silverman ran 4 years of DIII cross country, the highlight of which was
the 2005 western regional championships, in which he finished 16th,
broke the school record, and out-kicked 7-time NCAA champion (800m
&1500m) and future Olympian Nick Symmonds in the last 200 meters of
the race.Peter has been a member of the GRC racing team since 2007, and
has set personal bests in the 5K and 10K during that time. When not
putting in the miles, Peter stays busy as the creative director of Silverman Media Services LLC, a film and video production company.
Fun Fact: Silverman was given the nickname "Towpath" after his teammates discovered he logged 90% of his mileage on the C&O canal trail.
