Summer Program

The Georgetown Running Company Racing Team invites competitive high
school middle-distance and distance runners to apply for its 2011 Summer
Training Program. This program will provide a limited number of
qualified high school runners the unique opportunity to train
side-by-side with elite post-collegiate runners for the entire summer.
High school runners who are admitted to the program will attend
Wednesday evening track workouts with our squad of elite runners, and
will be invited to join us on our weekend group runs. Participants will
receive personal attention from our highly-regarded coach, Jerry Alexander, who has many years of experience working with elite runners on the collegiate and post-collegiate levels.
The focal point of the program will be the Wednesday night interval workouts. Each Wednesday night, participants will run their warm-up and cool-down with our team. Participants will run their interval sessions, which will be designed and supervised by Coach Jerry, concurrently with us. Leading members of our men’s team include:

Training with us for the entire summer will allow young runners to benefit from our collective experience of having run at the highest levels of the sport for many years. By getting to know the members of our team over the course of the summer, participants will have the opportunity to experience first hand the passion for the sport and relentless dedication to excellence that have allowed our members to excel. And by joining us in our pre- and post- workout routines, participants will learn from us both the big things and the little things that are necessary to maximize their potential.
This opportunity to learn from elite athletes will be particularly valuable to high school athletes who hope to continue their running careers in college. Our team members have competed on every collegiate level--including the Ivy League, large and small Division I programs, Division II, and Division III–and will be eager to share their experiences with summer program participants. In addition, Coach Jerry was an exceptionally accomplished recruiter during his college coaching career, and will be happy to provide his insights on the recruiting process to program participants and their parents.
The summer program will run from June 22, 2011 to August 24, 2011. Wednesday workouts are held at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School beginning at 6:45 p.m. Weekend runs are in the morning and begin at various locations, including the Georgetown Running Company stores in Chevy Chase and Georgetown. Times and locations of the weekend runs will be announced each week. Cost for the ten week session is $500. To apply, contact Jerry Alexander at coach.jerry@live.com.
