Catherine Campbell Worthington

Catherine, a native of Carlisle, PA, joined GRC from 2012-2013 after graduating from Dickinson College. She was a four-year cross-country and track collegiate athlete, garnering All-American recognition for her third-place finish in the 5k at the 2012 NCAA indoor championships. Following a short one-year stay in Bethesda as a post-baccalaureate research fellow at NIH IRTA, Catherine attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. After four years in Philadelphia, she moved south for additional training in the dental specialty of orthodontics at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Jerry remained her coach during these formative years as Catherine worked her way from a 5k/10k specialist to a marathoner. Coach Jerry was instrumental in preparing Catherine physically and mentally to attempt the 2020 Olympic Trials qualifying standard. After a disappointing finish at the 2019 California International Marathon, Catherine came back six weeks later to run an 8-minute PR and OTQ in 2:43.57 at the Houston Marathon. Another six weeks later, Catherine savored the opportunity to compete in Atlanta, GA at the Olympic trials among the country’s best marathoners. Catherine’s time in Chapel Hill ended in May as she graduated from orthodontic residency, and relocated to Towson, MD with her newly married husband, Arthur, and their three-year-old vizsla, Ivy. Catherine began working as an orthodontist in July and is incredibly excited for the opportunity to compete and train as a GRC athlete once again!
