James first experience with running came about in 4th grade and ultimately translated into a stellar career at Cardinal O’Hara High School in Philadelphia. During this time, he anchored the DMR to a national championship, missing the national record by one second. James’ career at American University was limited by injury, but he ran 3:50.6 for 1500 when he was healthy as a freshman. “Elbow Jim” had an inauspicious start with GRC when he broke his elbow at his first workout, but has since gotten back on track and set goals that include breaking 4 minutes in the mile and qualifying for the Olympic Trials. James works in Washington as a senior researcher focusing on Chinese military issues.
