John McGowan

A Washington, D.C. native, John started running track in 7th grade. After he finished his first mile time trial, his coach was convinced he had skipped a lap. He hadn’t. Following his freshman year of high school, John parted ways with the soccer team and took up cross country. By his senior year, he became the first D.C. resident to qualify for the Footlocker National Cross Country Championships. He was also named All-Met Athlete of the Year by the Washington Post and twice earned Gatorade’s Runner of the Year award for D.C. At the collegiate level, John captained Yale’s cross country team and was a member of its school-record-setting 4xMile relay squad. After a few years away from competitive running, John returned to training with an eye towards qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Trials marathon. Off the roads and the track, John recently completed a judicial clerkship and works as a lawyer in D.C.
