Lucas began his competitive running career as a senior year at Fort Mill High School in his native South Carolina after realizing he was a terribly awful soccer player. At the onset, he experienced very limited success until he discovered the wonderful invention that are spikes. Tossing the heavy trail runners to the side, Lucas laced up a pair of hand-me-down spikes and hasn’t looked back since.

As a walk on at Navy, the expectations for Lucas were none at best. The coach had even told him that he would never run for Navy. But as the workouts, miles, and races rolled on, Lucas cemented himself in the history of Navy Cross Country and Track as the school record holder on Navy’s home cross country course and a First Team All-American in the 10,000, placing 5th at the NCAA Championship his senior year.

For the time being, Lucas thinks that he can continue to ride his good luck and maybe make some noise in the 10,000 beyond the realm of college track but only time will tell. Lucas is an officer in the Marine Corps who will attend flight school.
